DON'T MISS THIS! Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park – September 11, 12, 13

Now this sounds like a great time!  Sandy Point Park is hosting the 42nd annual Maryland Seafood Festival of this Annapolis tradition.  Live music performances, food, exhibits, arts and crafts and even a Crab Soup Cook-Off will be showcased at the Seafood Festival.  The festival is expected to draw 20,000 visitors!   

The Crab Soup Cook-Off participants include 19 restaurants/caterers, featuring 14 cream of crab varieties and 12 vegetable crab soups!  That is over 30 different soups to try!  Crap Soup Cook-Off Tickets run $8.00.

Food vendors include both commercial food parners and non-profit vendors…The non-profit vendors include Annapolis Jaycees, Arundel House of Hope, Arundelair Chorus of Sweet Adlines, Boy Scout Troop 278, Children’s Miracle Network, Cub Scout Pack 496, Foundation for Community Betterment, Maryland Food Bank, Mt Zion United Methodist Church, Queenstown Lions Club and Sons of Italy.  Other food partners are Phillips, Red Hot & Blue and Real Seafood Company.

Live performances include Afro Bop Alliance, Annapolis Junction Big Band, The Basement Band, The Crawdaddies, Doug Segree, The Geckos, Higher Hands, Old Mill High School Steel Drum Band, Rob Levit Trio, The Rovers and Val Nebbia. 

There will also be the 2nd annual Mermaid Parade for boys and girls, ages 4-10, to participate.  The parade takes place at 3pm on Saturday, September 12.  All participating kids in costume get in free.  Acceptable costumes include nautical themed costumes.

Additionally, the 3rd annual Senior Expo is available to seniors on Friday, September 11 from 11am-5pm.  Wells Fargo  will be a featured speaker discussing reverse mortgages… there will also be health screenings, blood pressure checks and flu shots available to Medicare patients.  Other vendors include the Alzheimers Association, Anne Arundel County Department of Aging, the county police department, Crofton Rehab Center, Liberty Medical, Weatherization Assistance Program, Arundel Olympic Swim Center, Harbor Hospital, AARP Driving Program and more.

About Sandy Point State Park:

Sandy Point State Park offers some of the best views of the middle Chesapeake Bay from Maryland's western shore.  It is a 786 acre partk providing a variety of recreational activities including swimming, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, boating, windsurfing, hiking trails, playground, and a youth-group campsite.  It is a popular location to view woodland, marsh and migratory waterfowl.  They offer beaches and picnic areas with spectacular views of the Bay Bridge.  The facilities include a marina with 22 launching ramps and a store.  There are accessible food and beverage concessions, bathhouses, sailing concessionaire and more.  Pets are not permitted.  Click here to print a park brochure.

 

Directions to Sandy Point State Park:

From Washington, D.C.: Follow Route 50 East to exit 32 for Sandy Point State Park.

From Baltimore: Follow I-695 to exit 4 for Route 97 South toward Annapolis. Exit off of Route 97 at Route 50 East. Take exit 32 to Sandy Point State Park—just prior to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

From the Eastern Shore: Follow Route 301 South to Route 50 West. Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to exit 32 for Sandy Point State Park
